Wills & Living Trusts

A gift in your will or living trust is a simple and rewarding way to support Big Bend Conservancy. It has no impact on your current lifestyle and can be updated at any time, providing you flexibility for unanticipated expenses or life events.

How It Works

Specific Bequests

This option allows you to designate a fixed dollar amount or a percentage of your estate for Big Bend Conservancy. Donors often choose this when they want to ensure a clear, defined gift to support Big Bend’s mission.

I bequeath $ _____________ or _____% of my estate to Friends of Big Bend National Park (dba Big Bend Conservancy), a not-for-profit organization, with its principal office located at Big Bend National Park, TX 79834, and with a tax identification number 75-2670331, for its ongoing conservation and education purposes in support of Big Bend National Park.

Residuary Bequests

With a residuary bequest, Big Bend Conservancy receives all or a percentage of what remains in your estate after other gifts, expenses, and obligations are settled. This is a good option if you want to first provide for family and friends, while still ensuring Big Bend benefits from the remainder.

I bequeath $ _____________ or _____% of my residuary estate to Friends of Big Bend National Park (dba Big Bend Conservancy), a not-for-profit organization, with its principal office located at Big Bend National Park, TX 79834, and with a tax identification number 75-2670331, for its ongoing conservation and education purposes in support of Big Bend National Park.

Contingent Bequests

A contingent bequest ensures that Big Bend Conservancy receives a gift if your primary beneficiaries do not survive you. Donors may choose this to provide for loved ones first, while also ensuring that their estate supports the park if circumstances change.

In the event (primary beneficiary) does not survive me, I give said amount to Friends of Big Bend National Park (dba Big Bend Conservancy), a not-for-profit organization, with its principal office located at Big Bend National Park, TX 79834, and with a tax identification number 75-2670331, for its ongoing conservation and education purposes in support of Big Bend National Park.

Examples

Specific Bequest

When Pat and Dana get married and create a will, they include a $75,000 gift to Big Bend Conservancy to help protect the park they love. This specific bequest gives them confidence that, no matter what, Big Bend will benefit directly from their estate plans.

Residuary Bequest

As their family grows to include three children, Pat and Dana decide to revise their plans to ensure both their children’s future and the future of Big Bend. Working with their attorney, they change the gift language so that Big Bend Conservancy now receives a percentage of their estate, rather than a fixed amount. This gives them peace of mind, knowing their legacy provides for their family and helps preserve the landscapes, wildlife, and history of Big Bend National Park.

Contingent Bequest

Later, Pat and Dana want to make sure their estate plans can adapt to life’s uncertainties. With the guidance of their attorney, they add a contingent bequest stating that if their primary beneficiaries do not survive them, the designated amount goes to Big Bend Conservancy. This way, their plans protect their loved ones first while also ensuring that Big Bend always remains part of their legacy.
