To meet the growing and evolving needs of Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Conservancy is launching the Big Bend Conservancy Collective Campaign, a comprehensive effort to fund key priority projects while strengthening the flexible resources needed to address future challenges.
As the official philanthropic partner of Big Bend National Park, we invite supporters to join us in this landmark initiative to preserve, enrich, and conserve the park’s extraordinary landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage for generations to come.
PRIORITY PROJECTS
Terlingua Creek
Project
Priority: Ensure Big Bend National Park Remains a model of conservation and efficiency through resource management initiatives.
Big Bend Conservancy is working with Congress and local landowners to expand Big Bend National Park through the purchase of more than 3,000 acres of ecologically and historically significant land along the park’s western boundary.
Castolon District Stabilization
Priority: Ensure Big Bend National Park Remains a model of conservation and efficiency through resource management initiatives.
In partnership with park archaeologists and preservation experts, Big Bend Conservancy is funding the stabilization of the iconic adobe structures of the historic Castolon District, which were damaged by a catastrophic wildfire in 2019.
Sotol Vista Overlook Enhancements
Priority: Ensure Big Bend National Park Remains a model of conservation and efficiency through resource management initiatives.
Big Bend Conservancy is leading enhancements to Sotol Vista Overlook to make it fully accessible for all visitors, featuring an inclusive viewing platform, updated interpretive exhibits, and space for educational programs celebrating the park’s dark skies.
Waste Reduction &
Landfill Offset
Priority: Ensure Big Bend National Park Remains a model of conservation and efficiency through resource management initiatives.
Big Bend Conservancy is engaging park staff, local communities, and stakeholders to identify and advance landfill offset solutions that ease the burden on the park's landfill and promote long-term resource conservation.
Dark Skies Protection
& Partnerships

Big Bend Conservancy is leading efforts to preserve Big Bend’s exceptional night skies through lighting compliance, visitor education, and community outreach, protecting the park’s natural nocturnal environment and the many wildlife species that rely on it.
Conserving Big Bend's Wilderness

More than 80% of Big Bend National Park is managed as wilderness, safeguarding an extraordinary array of native flora and fauna. Big Bend Conservancy supports initiatives that preserve these vital habitats and the species that rely on them.
Workforce Housing Upgrades
Priority: Ensure Big Bend National Park Remains a model of conservation and efficiency through resource management initiatives.
Big Bend Conservancy invests in critical upgrades to park workforce housing to ensure safe, comfortable living conditions for the staff and families who keep Big Bend National Park running and welcoming to visitors year-round.
Park Community Mental Health Initiatives
Priority: Ensure Big Bend National Park Remains a model of conservation and efficiency through resource management initiatives.
Big Bend Conservancy is committed to maintaining and expanding support for mental health initiatives that provide resources, counseling, and community care for the people who live and work in Big Bend National Park.
VISION PROJECTS
A reimagined Chisos Basin plaza.
Proposed renovations to the Chisos Basin would create a new basin plaza, designed to improve trail access and visitor flow, expand educational opportunities, and make the basin accessible for all visitors.
ENDOWED PROJECTS
Fossil Discovery Center Maintenance
Big Bend Conservancy supports ongoing care of the Fossil Discovery Exhibit, helping maintain displays, update outdoor signage, and preserve the quality of this open-air museum so visitors can continue to explore Big Bend's remarkable ancient past.
Park Trail
Stewardship
Funded by the James A. “Buddy” Davidson Trails Endowment, Big Bend Conservancy provides lasting support for seasonal crews who maintain and restore the park’s trails, repairing weather damage, improving safety, and creating new routes for exploration.
