Beneficiary Designations
Naming Big Bend Conservancy as a beneficiary of your financial or retirement assets is an easy and meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy. You retain the flexibility to update your plans at any time, ensuring your gift always reflects your wishes.
How It Works
Naming a charitable beneficiary is a simple and adaptable way to create a lasting legacy.
You can designate the Conservancy to receive proceeds from:
-
Retirement accounts or IRAs
-
Life insurance policies
-
Commercial annuities
-
Bank, investment, or brokerage accounts
These gifts are arranged outside of your will through beneficiary forms provided by your financial institutions. You can update your designations at any time and even divide them among family members, friends, and charitable organizations. By including Big Bend Conservancy in your plans, you help ensure that the park’s extraordinary landscapes and wildlife will be protected for generations to come.
It only takes three simple steps to make this type of gift.
Here’s how to name Big Bend Conservancy as a beneficiary:
-
Request a form from your retirement plan administrator, insurance company, bank, or financial institution to change your beneficiary designation.
-
Decide the percentage (from 1% to 100%) you would like Big Bend Conservancy to receive, and list us on the form along with that percentage.
-
Submit the completed form to your plan administrator, insurance company, bank, or financial institution.
Example
Liz and Richard have always found joy in supporting both their family and Big Bend Conservancy. When updating their will, they decided to leave their stocks and real estate to their children and designate a $75,000 IRA for Big Bend Conservancy to receive after their lifetime. Because the Conservancy is a tax-exempt organization, the full amount of their IRA will go directly toward protecting and preserving Big Bend National Park.
Had they left the IRA to their children, roughly $18,000* would have been lost to federal income taxes, leaving only $57,000 for their family’s use. Liz and Richard are grateful knowing their updated estate plan allows them to care for their loved ones while maximizing the impact of their gift to Big Bend Conservancy.
*Estimated using a 24% marginal income tax bracket.
